The water was so incredibly clean at this lake, it’s completely fed by snow melt and rain, has no fish, and power boats aren’t allowed. Absolutely beautiful. Temperatures were ~95 in the sun and ~80 in the shade. Great for swimming, canoeing, hiking.
And here are the bonus crater lake shots. It’s incredible and I highly suggest checking it out if you ever get the chance.

Can I ask what lake that is? In trade I’ll tell you that little lava lake is very nice. I believe it’s spring fed and it has a black lava bed so it’s a little warmer than most Oregon mountain lakes.
Crater Lake always causes me mixed emotions. Seeing it is incredible. The park always leaves me a little wanting, I wish they had not built the road so close to the rim on one side to improve the hiking at the rim a little bit. Definitely something everyone should see once though.

I know some folks dive in Crater Lake, and they all use dry suits cuz the water is supposedly very cold. Did you swim in the lake?

Waldo lake, about an hour northwest of crater lake on 58.
Unfortunately I didn’t have much time to spend at crater lake. But I would live to go back, try the boat tour, and bicycle around the rim. Hiking could certainly be better.

No. I didn’t even have time to go down to the water at crater lake. It’s about an hour hike from the rim. I would imagine it is very cold. I would live to go back and do the boat tour though.

Looks awesome, I’ve also only stopped at Crater Lake for a short visit and my wife has never been...really hoping to get out that way again soon.
Do you live in the area? Just moved to Portland (me and everybody else!), been wanting to make it happen for a long time and excited to be here for the long haul...so much to explore and see in the PNW.

I’ve been to Waldo, just didn’t recognize it!
Anyway, biking the rim is amazing, the best thing to do there. Id recommend getting out early and preferably on a weekday because the roads are narrow and curvy and the drivers distracted.
My wife gives me grief because I still havent done the boat tour and I’ve been out there like 4-5 times and she says it’s awesome. My next trip is going to be this winter hopefully, as I picked up some telemark skis last year and I’m a decent cross country skier and I’ve always wanted to ski to and hopefully around the rim.

I haven't gone diving there, but I have swam there. Yes. It's cold.

Great trip! I went there a couple of times as a kid and loved it, definitely want to share it with my kids.

I’ve been there a couple of times, very cool place. I’ve always wanted to circum navagate the rim road as a bike ride. Would be hard but fun.

A winter trip there would be amazing! Anyone I’ve had a chance the wife has been in the car with me and she’s terrified of driving in snow so we never do it. And she just doesn’t care top go up there to begin with

Haha, I get it (and have been sufficiently complaining to people how horrible and rainy it is although I haven’t seen a drop yet). I definitely get Portland’s growing pains and issues with people moving here at such a rapid pace. Lived in Santa Cruz and the SF Bay area for almost 15 years and it sucked seeing the changes out there, and similar trends starting out here. For what it’s worth, trust me I’ve been there and we absolutely want to become part of the community, participate in local issues, and help every way we can to make it our home for the super long run (as opposed to just seeing it as the next cool hip place to go burn through money at with whatever ridiculous start up offers us the most $$$).
Cars & Coffee at World of Speed looks like its a pretty huge deal out here, have you been? I’ve never been to one anywhere but hoping to check it out soon.

I’m a transplant too, moved here in 08. It’s amazing how much the city has changed since then, and how much rent and home prices have gone up. Still an absolutely amazing city though, and I honestly can’t complain too much about new people coming, they all just add to the beautiful diversity.
I’ve been to cars and coffee at WoS twice. Weather wasn’t fantastic but turnout was still pretty good and there were definitely shine cool cars. Truthfully though it isn’t really my scene, I’d rather be out doing something and I see/drive/fix badass cars every day so the magic isn’t really there for me at events like that. Too often at events like that, people find out what I do and I get bombarded with questions about their Honda or how much of a discount am I going to give them.

Haha, dammit. I was just about to ask what kind of discount you can give me on my E30 :P
Sounds like an awesome line of work, what exactly do you do? Closest I got to cars was at my last job at an automotive advertising company (Road and Track and C&D were sister companies, which was pretty cool).
And agreed -I’ve mostly never been to a C&C because it feels forced and unnatural to me, and I’d rather be doing something else on my day off. Just being new to the area and having zero car-related friends it might be cool though.
And agreed on newcomers - didn’t hold it against people in SF either, just wish that more people would open up and embrace/experience the culture they move in to. Most infuriating part about SF was all the people who’d just move there to work 14 hour days, commute 2 hours in a corporate shuttle, sleep in a tiny studio, rinse and repeat.

Oh I’m just a lowly technician who fixes plebian cars. Technically my title would be something like “team lead/technician/AMG expert”, with certs and qualifications up the wazoo. Here is some of the crap I have to put up with

There’s lots more if you care enough to go back a few pages through my posts. These at least are all work related.
What do you do?

Sorry about the delayed response – there doesn’t seem to be anything “lowly” about your job, sounds pretty sweet and you get to experience some awesome stuff! That write-up with the AMG GT was awesome.
My line of work is way more boring – I’m an accountant, kind of on the weirdly specific and technical side of things and am working at Intel now. It’s a bit weird being at a huge company again, but it’s been very interesting so far…they’ve got so much going on and so many crazy new things they’re trying to throw their hat into, it’s pretty cool. The work culture is way more laid back than the bay area and the company has quite a few cool perks, so hoping to not get sucked into it too much and actually enjoy life out here. Speaking of which, this post is the only thing between me and the weekend right now. Have a great one!

No worries. And thanks!
I’ve heard Intel is great to work for. Have a great weekend!
